White Aster – Pompon Dahlia

Breeder: Dobbie (Great Britain), 1879

White Aster is a timeless heirloom that has been a favorite for over 140 years. It is a "must-have" for wedding designers and those who love classic, high-productivity plants. Known for its "pristine" beauty, it produces hundreds of small, ivory globes that feature a soft, honey-colored glow at the center. It is exceptionally vigorous and often one of the first varieties to bloom in the field.

  • Color Profile: A clean, creamy white with a subtle hint of pale yellow or "honey" at the very heart of the bloom.

  • Form: A classic Pompon (sometimes categorized as a Small Ball), featuring perfectly symmetrical, tightly rolled petals that form a dense, spherical head.

  • Bloom Size: Produces petite and charming 2" blossoms, making it an essential "filler" or accent flower for bridal bouquets.

  • Plant Height: Reaches a reliable 3–4' tall (though some sources report up to 5' in ideal conditions) on very strong, straight stems.

  • Garden Performance: Extremely productive and vigorous. It is known for its "weatherproof" blooms that hold up well in rain and have an excellent vase life.
