Shilo Jazzman – Informal Decorative Dahlia
Breeder: L. Connell (USA, 1989)
Shilo Jazzman is the ultimate workhorse for the romantic garden. I use this bloom very often as a staple in my own wedding work because it is simply unmatched for reliability and classic elegance. It produces a massive volume of "glowing" white blooms that feature a soft, creamy yellow-green center, giving them a depth and warmth that stark white varieties often lack.
Color Profile: A luminous, pure white with a soft, buttery-yellow heart. This "candlelight" glow makes it a favorite for bridal bouquets and high-end floral design.
Unique Form: An Informal Decorative type with slightly wavy, relaxed petals that give it a soft, pillowy texture reminiscent of a waterlily in its younger stages.
Bloom Size: Features tidy 4–5" blossoms (Classified as BB size), the perfect "sweet spot" scale for handheld bouquets and centerpieces.
Plant Height: A vigorous and commanding grower, reaching a stately 4–5' tall. It is known for its long, sturdy stems and exceptionally prolific blooming habit.
Gardener's Note: This variety is famous for its toughness—it's a great choice for beginners because it "pumps out" blooms all season long and is a fantastic tuber producer.
